My dealer sold the first version of this painting, it was the announcement card for my exhibition and was sold a week before the show opened. The first version didn’t have the female figure bending over and spreading her towel in the sand. My dealer said he had another client who wanted the painting and asked if I could I paint it again. It was something I didn’t want to do but he insisted that the buyer was an important client. My solution to this dilemma was to see it in cinematic terms and imagine somebody else joining the group.
