A dealer once told me, “Don’t paint snow pictures, they don’t sell” which might be true. But there are a few snow pictures that I would like on my wall: Monet’s ‘Magpie’ or Brueghel’s ‘The Hunters in the Snow’ are two that come to mind. One night after working really late, I had the luck to walk out of my studio into a snowy night. The snow was tapering off but it was substantial and my street was covered by white virgin snow and not a moving car in sight. New York was beautiful, silent in an opalescent light.
